CANTEEN FUN.......

It used to be our regular place to chill out...it was even more important for us than the practicals and the classrooms...stress relieving place during dissertation..and ya also for the Ph.D students...they were always found there..especially dhaval sir..he knows the reason..i will not reveal it...samajne wale samaj gaye honge...and ya looking at my size i loved to go there...vasu sir used to call me from his cabin whenever he used to see me there and asked me"i always see u in the canteen" , now sir u can understand why i used to go there..when the clock strikes 5:30 three girls namely jaadi, ekta and niyati used to rush as i they had to catch a train to the canteen for a strong coffee and bun butter because the canteen boy used to keep it for us even if it was in less quantity..and ya a coffee pouch was reserved especially for us so that we could add some more coffee..and from there we used to call our juniors and say "ala autoclave joje..20 min thay ne etle bandh kari deje"...monty kanjus used to always come at that time phokat nu khava piva mate...and yes someone used to accompany him;kon che e hun nai kau ene khabar che...and ya wen some people(dadhich,kussiee,prapti,monty,mohsin,niyati,ekta,meghna,ishu etc etc etc etc) used to know that i am paying then god save me from the horror...salao dabai ne khata..god knows were they actually hungry?????? "ala jaadi paisa apvani che la bhukh na hoi ne to pan khai lejo..."..iska badla lungi me.....but used to enjoy..

Myself Vishal Oza a Ph.D, My experience with department is full of joy and enjoyment like canteen tea; Navaratri; Youth festival; cricket and annual day. I joined BIOSCIENCES HOME in November 2006, SPUBS’s GS for 2008-2009.
Two most important experiences in the department that my ear was first time listening “Vishal Sir” and Ph.d student team was won in cricket tournament - 2010

It is often said that the best days of your life are your college days…and yes its true….a girl who wanted to become a fashion designer and ended up being a biotechnologist. She thought she was a failure because she could not clear the maths examination in 12^th and ended up with a compartment due to which her dream of becoming a fashion designer ended up. She decided to pursue her graduation in biotechnology. The journey began when I joined NVPAS in FY..I cleared my compartment but still was under the impression that I am a failure..2^nd year again she could not come in the merit list of BT and hence opted for Genetics; again I thought that I am destined to become a failure…but then things changed…I developed interest in the subject and secured 75% in B.Sc…I was happy and yes OVERCONFIDENT….and her next destination was M.Sc Biotechnology from the BHANUBEN AND RATILAL DOSHI SCHOOL OF BIOSCIENCES…And yes friends now I confess that once you I in biosciences your attitude and aptitude towards the subject will take a new turn…I am proud to be associated with this great institute and indeed Biosciences Rocks..Those who think that spoon feeding in the form of notes and material is a necessary criterion may not even come here…this department brings out the real you..you actually realize your potential what you can do…I was the cultural secretary during my tenure in the department…youth festival activity was fun and everyone cooperated with us…I enjoyed a lot during my tenure of the department and will never forget it my entire life…let me give you a brief introduction of our teachers who taught me and who have in some or the other way have been a constant source of inspiration for all of us..

DR K S RAO: the current HOD of the Department. He used to teach us cell biology and plant biotechnology…he never said no to anything…we used to eat his head during the regular practicals..Thank you sir for being so kind and yes patient….

DR DATTA MADAMWAR: I remember him always smiling and always cheerful..He used to teach us molecular biology (transcription and translation). He explained conceptually…we used to enjoy his lectures…regular Ganesh chaturthi celebrations were due to him….Thanks a lot sir for those wonderful lectures and moments.

DR UJJWAL TRIVEDI: well if I start writing about him it will require a lot of thinking and brainstorming..A realistic person by nature…if you have any problem related to his subjects you have to go and ask him…don’t send someone on your behalf…an excellent orator and a very sarcastic person…he used to teach us fermentation and microbial technology..we used to call him fermentation guru…till date I remember all the lines that he spoke in his lectures…he gave real life examples while teaching and I guess that is the reason we remember his lectures till date…if out of 30 students in class 20 bunk then u r gone…he is very particular with the attendance…he always encourages new talent and helped the students in debate and elocution when it came to the youth festival…and yes don’t even try to be smart in front of him or else you are gone…and yes for us he was the most popular….till date he will answer to all my queries without hesitation…THANKS a million sir….we are grateful to u…

DR HARESH KEHARIA: he used to teach us molecular biology…he used to personally come and show us the way in which we had to follow the practicals…his practical sessions used to be fun…a very patient listener. Never hesitate to go and ask him any doubt even if it is a stupid one…and ya always smiling…I still remember him when we used to wish him good morning and he used to smile and say good morning….heartfelt thanks to u sir…

DR AMITA R SHAH: she used to teach us environmental biotechnology and microbial biotechnology…a very good observer…she knows who was present and who was performing the practical…very strict when it comes to making a standard graph…never proceed until and unless u obtain a straight line..Repeat the standard again and again…this is how we mastered the standard graph and it is still useful for us…she used to call each and everyone and ask what was going onn in the practical..She will come to know if someone did not answer that….a very dynamic teacher..we used to write down all her notes whatever she used to speak in the class….we refer it till date…she said to us when we went to meet her sometime back that “tamara batch ni to vaat aj alag hati…pachi koi sari batch avij nathi”…mam we are honored that we were ur students…..

DR R.B .SUBRAMANIUM: a very kindhearted person who always used to help us come what may even if he was busy…I still remember I got the seminar topic PHARMACOGENOMICS in his subject that is R -DNA technology…I went and asked him to change it…he just told me I know that u can deliver it in a good way…I gave the seminar..There were merely 6 to 7 students present during my seminar…and it was 5’0 clock in the evening..then to sir came and listened and then told his research students that she can become a good teacher….yes sir it is because of you that I have become a good academician… I will never forget those words….his spectrophotometry class notes are still famous today….I owe u a lot sir…

DR JSS MOHAN: he used to teach us plant tissue culture….he had the patience to listen to the seminar that consisted of 65 ppts….and yes post seminar sessions were fun…questions were raised not only to the person who conveyed it but also to the whole class…students were asked how many marks should be given to to the person who gave the seminar…a very interactive teacher….

DR VASUDEV THAKKAR: he was my guide in my dissertation and again always smiling…and a very patient person too…I was worried regarding my dissertation because I did not get any reply from thae places that I had applied to..I called sir and asked him whether he can accommodate me and he said yes without hesitation…thanks a million sir…I still remember all my plants were damaged during my dissertation because some monkeys had plucked them away…I was so worried and he told me to continue on the younger plants that were meant for his further work…I am highly obliged to you sir…he checked my thesis 8 times and only then told me to print it… a very punctual person…he also taught us microbial physiology and vector biology… a very fun loving person…..

DR KIRAN KALIA: she taught us biochemistry and enzymology…we always used to wait to watch her coming in her car…well dressed and really sophisticated…very excellent teacher….

DR M NATARAJ: a very joyful person by nature..he enjoys eating and so we used to get along really well…he encouraged new talent…ALWAYS SMILINGGG…he used to teach us microscopy…he used to sit with us and crack jokes…we enjoyed his company a lot…till date he remembers each one of us especially our group…

And how can I forget the research scholars: Sandip sir (always helpful), Vishal sir (GS when I was the cultural secretary and always told me to do all the work…lol), harsur sir ( a very funny person who always used to make me laugh and always used to harass me ke dieting kar jadi ketli thai gai chu), Dhaval sir (canteen maj male tamne always..kaam kyare karta hase khabar nai), Gaurav sir (bhagwaan na manas we used to call him….very calm…jarur pade tyarej bole), Sandesh sir (my god bolvama to mane pan pachal padi de…), Pritesh sir ( PCR guru….lab maaj ghar hatu emnu…dedicated to his work..lol)….

Aju bau che……pan overall a lifetime experience in the BRD SCHOOL OF BIOSCIENCES….
